Cairnholy is a chambered cairn that sits on the slopes of Cairnholy Hill, overlooking Wigtown Bay to the south. Much of the stonework has been plundered, but the impressively large stones that form the façade remain in place. The tomb measures approximately 45 metres in length and 10 metres in width, and dates to some time between 2000-4000BC.

This is a spectacular site. The stones are impressive and full of character, and the views over the bay are stunning in the right weather. Although this could be classified as a well-known, major monument, it's a quiet part of Scotland and visitors are few in number.
