Birkrigg Stone Circle consists of two rings of stones. The outer ring originally consisted of an estimated 20 stones, with those that remain now lying fallen. That ring measures approximately 26 metres in diameter. The inner ring consists of 10 stones, most of which remain standing. It has a diameter of approximately 9 metres.

Birkrigg Stone Circle commands a dramatic spot on Birkrigg Common with fine views out to the northeast over Morcambe Bay and the distant hills. It's not always a quiet spot though, being popular with dog walkers and others looking for an afternoon stroll.
